Half-Ironman Distance

For athletes looking to increase their personal endurance challenge, without leaping to an Ironman-distance event, a half-Ironman event is perfect. These events are typically 1.2 miles of swimming, 56 miles of cycling and 13.1 miles of running.

Plenty of top-shelf half-Ironman distance races around the country are hosted by outstanding race directors.

Half-Ironman distance events hosted by the World Triathlon Corporation are called "70.3" events, representing the total distance, in miles, covered in the event and representing a trademarked business name.

Ironman Distance

The original sport distances for an Ironman race, were established by John Collins, and the first Ironman race was held in 1978 on the island of Oahu, Hawaii. These distances remain the standard for Ironman racing today.

This gold-standard endurance event is 2.4-miles of swimming followed by a 112-mile bike ride and finally topped off with a 26.2-mile run. Only events owned by the World Triathlon Corporation may have "Ironman" in the title as the word "Ironman" is a registered trademark.
