This 2.5 hour class is ideal preparation for the Los Angeles Triathlon, Malibu Triathlon, Pacific Coast Triathlon and the Orangeman Triathlon. Competent open water swimmers that are ready to tackle the surf will learn all about managing the surfline on race day.

Is this the right class for me?

This class is for competent open water swimmers that have had some experience swimming freestyle with their faces in the water in open water. Athletes with anxiety management issues in flat water races should take the Open Water Course For Triathletes before taking this class.

What does "unlimited class" mean?

It means that you are welcome to take the same class as many times as you wish so that you can continue to practice and improve your skills. All we ask is that you RSVP the instructor if you plan to attend a future class.

What about the Fearless Swimming Club?

Participants in this class automatically become members of the Fearless Swimming Club, a USAT recognized club that entitles you to accident insurance and other benefits. It is this club membership that allows us to invite you to join future classes without paying additional fees.

What if I am already a member of the Club?

If you are already a Fearless Swimming Club member, registering for this class will extend your membership another 12 months.

What do I need to bring?

Wetsuit and goggles are mandatory. We also require that participants wear a Swim It personal safety device. If you already have one, you will get a $30 discount on this class. If you don't you will be provided with one on the day of class. Go to the event organizer's website for additional information.

What if the surf is treacherous the day of class?

Glad you asked. Please mark your calendar for July 1 as an alternate day for class in case we have to reschedule.

What is included in the Fee?

Take the class as often as you wish (as long as you RSVP the instructor). Automatic membership in the Fearless Swimming Club.

Instructors and class activities

The class as a group will go through the surf several times with a short swim (about 200 Yd) to the first buoy. The focus of the class is dealing with the surfline.

Club swim after class

Participants that wish to swim to the further buoys (about 600M Round trip) after class are welcome to participate in the Fearless Swimming Club Swim. Important Note: The longer swim is not one of the class activities and a lifeguard will not be provided. A lifeguard will only be provided for the class swim out to the first buoy.

Can I get a refund?

No. If you can not attend you will get a raincheck for a future class.
