Brief Description

This camp is specifically designed for youth ages 7-14 years old who want learn how to do a kids triathlon. Kids will learn everything they need to know to complete a KIDS Triathlon and have FUN doing it! Bring a parent and learn how to swim around buoys, transition between events, safety on the bike, and how to pace your energy to finish a triathlon! Participants will use what they have learned to complete a Youth Triathlon!

For

Youth 7-14 years old that want to have FUN learning about triathlons and then practice doing a triathlon! Must be able to swim, bike, and run the distances of the practice triathlon (see below). ** If your child is 6 years old and can swim, ride a bike (without training wheels) and run and wants to participate, please email Coach Liz for permission to attend the camp. coachliz@tri2bemore.com

Camp Details

Kids will learn how to sight and swim around buoys, how to set up a transition area, how to transition from the swim to bike and the bike to run, bike safety and bike handling skills, triathlon rules and regulations, and how to pace their energy to finish a TRIATHLON.

Practice Triathlon Details

Kids will practice how to do a KIDS TRIATHLON in a non-competitive event. Younger participants may have one parent accompany them on the bike. The swim is open water simulated in a pool with buoys, the bike is a loop course on neighborhood roads, and the run is an out an back course on neighborhood roads and paths.

Practice Triathlon Distances ages 7-8

~50 yd swim - 1 mile bike- .5 mile run

Distances ages 9-10

~100 yd swim - ~2 mile bike - .5 mile run

Distances ages 11-12

~150 yd swim- ~2 mile bike - 1 mile run

Distances 13-14

~200 yd swim- ~2 mile bike- 1 mile run

What to Bring

A parent, photo ID, USAT youth membership card (or purchase $5 yearly membership), swimming suit, goggles, hair ties for long hair, towels, bike in good working order (no training wheels), bike helmet, shorts and top to bike and run, shoes to bike and run, hat or visor, sunscreen, and a water bottle filled with water.

Other Details

A parent must be present for the entire camp and practice triathlon. Youth must be turning 7 years old in 2011 to participate. Youth should plan on participating in the age division that they will be as of Dec 31st, 2011. Post-event refreshments and give-a-ways will follow the practice triathlon.

Inclement Weather Policy

This event will be held rain or shine. In case of extreme weather conditions, such as thunderstorms or unsafe swimming conditions as determined by the event organizers and/or officials, the event will be modified or cancelled. No Refunds.

This camp is presented by USAT certified Triathlon Coach, Liz Flynn, of Be More Coaching and Events and the Hammond Park Pool.

Sanctioning

USA Triathlon is the national governing body for the sports of triathlon, duathlon, winter triathlon and aquathlon in the United States. Participation in a USAT sanctioned event means the event director has the proper permits in place, liability and athlete excess medical insurance coverage and the event plan has met the standard of organization required. USA Triathlon provides rules, guidance and governance to set the standard for safe and fair multi-sport races.
