About Tucson and Swim/Bike/Run Venues
Tucson was named the second best winter training ground by Triathlete Magazine … and we happen to disagree. We believe that Tucson is the VERY BEST winter training ground. With just over 1 million people, it still has the small town feel, but all of the amenities of a large city, and is becoming the new home of more professional cyclists and triathletes every year. Tucson has over 300 days of sun, which makes for fantastic winters, with highs usually in the 50s-60s and lows in the 30s-40s.

Swimming: The City of Tucson has several all-year heated pools and we will be making arrangements for camp workouts in one of these facilities. The pool will feature a 25-yard, short course layout.

Cycling: In 2006, the Tucson/Eastern Pima County region was the only region in the nation to receive a gold rating, the second-highest rating for bicycle friendliness, from the League of American Bicyclists. The city is now striving for Platinum Status, and has over 700 miles of bike lanes, many as wide as 8 feet. Tucson was also named as “one of the top best cycling cities in North America” by Bicycling Magazine in 2007. Tucson has various riding terrain for athletes including rolling hills, sustained climbs for over 2 hours, as well as flat terrain.

Mt. Lemmon: A featured opportunity of the camp will be the chance to ride Mt. Lemmon on Saturday (see photo below). A trip on the Mt. Lemmon Highway provides a great ride from approximately 2,500 feet above sea level to over 8,000 feet above sea level. This is an incredibly beautiful ride as well, which starts you off among saguaro cactus and mesquite trees, then into a high altitude grassland and finally into an alpine setting complete with towering pines and cool mountain air. This is one of the best rides/climbs in the country.

Running: Tucson offers some of the best running a city has to offer. Sabino Canyon is a popular destination for trail runs and our hotel is right near the base of both Mt. Lemmon and Sabino Canyon, which makes it even more convenient than ever for staging our camp rides and runs. Urban trail runs can be done directly from the hotel.
