This camp is perfect for all levels of Ironman athletes, there are adjusted distances for Olympic and Half Iron distance athletes who wish to attend as well. Come join us!

About This Event

A TTUniversity Triathlon Camp, conducted by TTUniversity's coaches: 13 time Ironman Lake Placid USA finisher Steve Tarpinian, with assistant coaches Cyle Sage, Natalie Penny, and Armann Gretarsson

Participant Requirements

This camp is intended for Iron Distance athletes (however all triathletes are welcome). To register and get the most from camp, athletes should be doing a minimum weekly volume of: 6 - 8,000 yards/meters of swimming, 100 miles of biking and 25 miles of running. You should be relatively uninjured and have had a complete physical exam by your medical doctor within the last 3 months.

Equipment

Participants need a well tuned bike complete with a minimum of two spare tubes and a pump or several CO2 cartridges. Other equipment should include: wetsuit, goggles, helmet, cycling shoes and clothes (including a rain jacket), running shoes and bars / gels of your choice (2,000 calories in bars and 2,000 calories in gels for training alone, not snacks!). If you use a drink in training other than Gatorade, please bring it.

Suggested Hotels and Meeting Points

We recommend The Courtyard by Marriott Lake Placid Registered participants get discount code), but participants can stay at any hotel within 1 mile from Ironman Lake Placid transition area at Mirror Lake/the Olympic Oval. For purposes of getting directions, use the address of the High School (34 School St, Lake Placid, NY 12946) since this is where the Olympic Oval is and from there it is a short walk to Mirror Lake. Many camp meetings and training sessions are at or start from the lifeguard station at Mirror Lake. This is the start of the Ironman Lake Placid USA race.

Thursday June 16 - Arrival day

Check in to your hotel, if you arrive early enough: 4:00 PM swim 30 minutes and bike the run course (one lap) 13 miles on your own. 6PM Meet and greet at The Courtyard by Marriott Lake Placid, discussions and preparation for Friday training. NOTE: Athletes are encouraged to arrive by 6PM, however as long as you check in by midnight and have your bike ready to go, participation in camp is allowed.

Saturday May 26 Morning: CYCLING FOCUS

6:30 AM Breakfast, pre training briefing 7:30 AM Start ride on the actual race course. (Distance options: 56, 112 or 120 miles) The first 56 will be at an easy speed to go over various segments of the course and how to race it. For some that will be the extent of riding. The rest of the athletes to complete a second, faster lap. Upon completion of ride all athletes will do a transition run around Mirror Lake (3 miles) at race pace. Finish with an optional easy swim in Mirror Lake. Break until 4PM.

Saturday May 26 - Afternoon

4:00 PM Yoga Focus on relaxation, meditation, breathing and light stretching

6:00 PM Dinner, discussion on swim and run training and racing for Ironman, details of the Ironman Lake Placid USA course including Steve T's new secret nap site :)

Sunday May 27: 2nd day of camp - SWIM AND RUN

7:30 AM breakfast, pre training briefing

8:30 Yoga

10:00 AM Swim on Ironman Lake Placid USA course (wetsuits recommended), distance of 1.2 or 2.4 miles

12:00 Noon Bike 13.1 miles (one lap of run course) easy in small ring recovery, reviewing key segments of the run course.

1:00 PM Run on Ironman Lake Placid USA course. Distance of 13.1 - 18 miles

Sunday May 27 - Afternoon

4:00 PM Yoga Focus on relaxation, meditation, breathing and light stretching

5:00 PM , Q and A regarding any aspect of triathlon. Official finish of training camp. NOTE: ATHLETES MAY LEAVE AFTER DINNER TO RETURN HOME, HOWEVER STAYING TO RELAX IS RECOMMENDED. Two alcoholic drinks allowed if desired :)

Monday May 28 (Memorial Day) Official departure day

Optional AM Swim and easy bike ride before heading home

Cost

Fee includes: all coaching, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and water. Hotel cost and food are the participant’s responsibility.
