What's Included

Companies have moved away from the traditional practice of restricting different areas of engineering to separate departments. Instead, many organizations are trending towards assembling small teams of experts from cross-functional engineering disciplines dedicated to product design and development. This practice has shown to be far more effective than the traditional approach of attempting to merge data from various engineering streams. In this course, students will experience what it’s like to work alongside colleagues from different engineering disciplines in integrated product teams. Students will learn how integrated product teams function and will participate in real-world challenges, designing products such as an adjustable seat tray for use in airplanes, an ergonomic water bottle and a modular chair. Participants will use SolidWorks software to design their parts and make engineering drawings to complement their designs.

About This Organizer

The Engineering Student Outreach Office (ESOO), created in Fall 2009, manages and administers the core outreach programs offered by the Faculty. We act as the central unit for outreach activities promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education to a wide audience. We design and deliver programs centrally, and coordinate the activities by other entities including student organizations, Faculty members, and Departments. The vast majority of outreach activities supported by ESOO are pre-university programming.

The Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering is committed to inspiring youth within the community and across the world through outreach programming that focuses on engineering and applied sciences. These programs range from summer live-in programs to weekend courses during the fall and spring terms.
