What's Included

This course will introduce students to the past, present and future of human space exploration, focusing on spacecraft systems, space robotics, spacecraft operations, launch systems, orbital mechanics and spacecraft attitude control systems. After building foundations in calculus, algebra and Newtonian physics, students will be introduced to problem solving techniques used by engineering industry professionals, concepts of gravity, and methods of space travel. Participants will learn to use Octave/MATLAB – one of the most widely used software tools in scientific academia and the engineering industry – focusing on solving orbit dynamics problems. Students will also be introduced to the conventions used in scientific paper reporting and will participate in an engineering design project.

About This Organizer

The Engineering Student Outreach Office (ESOO), created in Fall 2009, manages and administers the core outreach programs offered by the Faculty. We act as the central unit for outreach activities promoting Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education to a wide audience. We design and deliver programs centrally, and coordinate the activities by other entities including student organizations, Faculty members, and Departments. The vast majority of outreach activities supported by ESOO are pre-university programming.

The Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering is committed to inspiring youth within the community and across the world through outreach programming that focuses on engineering and applied sciences. These programs range from summer live-in programs to weekend courses during the fall and spring terms.

Below is a listing of our current program offerings. Click on the links to find out more about each program.
