What's Included

Fractals are everywhere. You can find them in our lungs, kidneys, and blood vessels, flowers, plant, trees, terrain, rhythm of the heart, clouds, mountains, in the wilderness of nature. Today, fractals are used in medical research, in the movies, wireless communications, biology, computer graphics and games. In this course, students will learn about the fascinating concept of fractals, discover the mathematics behind them, and write iterative algorithms to create breathtaking computer graphics by using fractals. Students will be presented with background and mathematical foundations used in creating different types of fractals. Lectures will be interactive and lead to very interesting hands-on exercises that involve knowledge of Math and Computer Science. Major topics include Calculus, Geometry, Algebra and Transformations, 3D graphics, and Computer Programming.

About This Organizer

Science Explorations offers fun, innovative and engaging camp programs designed to inspire youth and discover science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).  Based out of the Faculty of Science at York University, our camp programs use an discovery and inquiry-based learning approach that is focused on ‘learning by doing’. Our outreach model provides campers also get a chance to work in small groups on a variety of projects that will help foster problem solving, critical thinking, and an overall passion for STEM.

Our camp takes place within the Faculty of Science at the Keele Campus of York University. Within the university environment, this gives campers the unique opportunity to learn and discover the amazing world of science and engineering . In each of our programs, whether in day-long workshops or  week-long camps, we enrich the learning experience with laboratory visits, faculty presentations, workshops and demonstrations from student groups, and much, much more!
