How to Add Power to Your One-Handed Backhand

The one-handed backhand can be a killer weapon on the tennis court. That is, if you have proper technique.

Some of the game's best players, including Roger Federer, Pete Sampras and Justine Henin, all used the one-handed backhand.

A powerful one-handed backhand begins with a straight hitting arm, which will help you develop the correct swing path and produce effortless power. The most common error I see is players leading with their elbow and never straightening out their hitting arm.

The hitting arm should straighten out at approximatly the bottom of the back spin, which also is called the slot position. If you get your arm straight and into the slot position, you have a very good chance of developing a solid swing path and getting some good power on your one-hander.
