What's Included

This course involves the study of three separate facets of bookmaking that are essential to the education of a well rounded bookbinder. The first is the construction of a binding structure that will allow stiff single sheets of paper, such as prints or photographs or other stiff materials such as light metals and plastics,to be treated and sewn so as to lie perfectly flat when opened. The second facet is the making of a reinforced paper binding for the book. The third is to make a cloth coverd clamshell box for the completed volume. The class will provide instruction in techniques that will prove practical and valuable to those wishing to efficiently make elegant books from otherwise difficult materials, presented in a handsome archival case. Some experience in the sewing of books and in gluing is required.
