The Ridge-A-Thon is a memorial fund-raising event at Taos Ski Valley where teams of two collect pledges (at least $200) and then climb and descend the hike-to terrain,
The Ben Myers Ridge-A-Thon is an extreme ski/board fundraising event in Taos Ski Valley in New Mexico, scheduled for March 22nd & 23rd, 2013. Now in its 17th year, it attracts snow-adventure-seekers from across the Southwest and beyond, including our very own former Governor, Gary Johnson. The pledges gathered support the Emergency Medicines Fund at the Taos Community Foundation. Why it Started: The community held the first Ridge-A-Thon to raise funds to assist with Ben Myers' medical expenses. Ben, a local Taos extreme skier, became severely ill with cancer and passed away tragically at age 26. Over the last 16 years, the Ridge-A-Thon has continued in Ben's honor, and has raised over half a million dollars and has given grants to those in the community who find themselves struggling to afford adequate medical care in a time of need. How it works: Paired teams collect pledges before the event, then they hike up and hustle down a menu of runs on Kachina Ridge in Taos Ski Valley, just to do it all again, as many times as they can handle over five hours. Then, if they like, they can come back and do it again the next day. The post-event awards and party is held at TSV on Saturday at 4pm. Excellent prizes from dozens of our sponsors will be given out to teams in a range of superlative categories. All participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt and have a chance to win our raffle prizes which include Scott Skis, K2 skis, Never Summer Industries snowboard, a 2014 Taos Ski Valley Millennium Pass, Völkl skis, Lange boots, and much more! Plus great food, drinks and footage from the weekend's work to Raise the Ridge for the Emergency Medicines Fund. Help us help our community and have some extreme fun.
