8 Early-Season Open Water Swims
Nevis to St. Kitts Cross-Channel Swim
Oualie Beach, Saint Kitts and Nevis - March 30, 2014 1 of 9
The smallest country in the Americas has unforgettable scenery on its two islands. This swim allows you to travel from one island to another, a 2.5-mile journey starting in Nevis. While many swimmers do this crossing competitively (the record is 58 minutes), inexperienced swimmers are allowed to use fins and wetsuits to help get across.
San Francisco, California - April 11-12, 2014 2 of 9
This two-day event combines swimming with sightseeing, and you can go both days if you want. The first day is a swim from Alcatraz Island to San Francisco, while the second day is a swim alongside (though underneath) the Golden Gate Bridge. Both swims are 1.5 miles long in 50-degree water, so a wetsuit is required.
Crippen Sunset Swim
Miromar Lakes, Florida - April 12, 2014 3 of 9
This is a 1-mile loop in Miromar Lake that starts and finishes on land. The catch is that the swim starts at 6:45 p.m., about an hour before sunset. The event is in honor accomplished open water swimmer Fran Crippen, who died tragically during a 2010 race in the Middle East.

Miami, Florida - April 19, 2014 5 of 9
Swim with the Miami skyline hovering overhead, and the famous Miami Beach close by. Swim Miami takes participants near Palm Island and its multimillion-dollar homes, and the setting in Biscayne Bay makes the waters calmer than a typical ocean swim. The original Swim Miami debuted in 1989, and today, the distances of 10K, 5K, 1-mile and 800 meters attract nearly 2,000 participants annually.
Norcal Open Water Swim
Cupertino, California - May 1, 2014 6 of 9
With distances ranging from a half-mile to 1.5 miles, this event takes place at Stevens Creek Reservoir and is the start of a four-event series the first Thursday of each month throughout the summer.
Osprey Open Water Swim
Ocean Springs, Mississippi - May 3, 2014 7 of 9
Take on a 1- or 2-mile open water in the Mississippi Sound—waters protected by the barrier islands to the south. The swim goes from the McPhearson Pier to the Biloxi Bay Bridge and back.
LV10K Open Water Swim
Boulder City, Nevada - May 17, 2014 8 of 9
Take on Lake Mead with this celebrated event, with distances of 10K, 5K and 1 mile. Just minutes from Las Vegas, it is one of the only open water swims in Nevada. Water temperature is expected to be around 73 degrees, and wetsuits are allowed.
