Brief Description

Come out and support San Francisco Baykeeper by participating in the inaugural 9-mile TRANSBAY RELAY swim from the Golden Gate to the East Bay! This non-competitive, 3-person relay fundraiser supports the efforts of San Francisco Baykeeper to protect the Bay from pollution. Each team pledges to raise $1,000 for Baykeeper's work to defend the water quality of San Francisco Bay.

About San Francisco Baykeeper

San Francisco Baykeeper is the pollution watchdog for San Francisco Bay. Since 1989, Baykeeper has been holding polluters accountable and strengthening clean water laws for the benefit of the Bay's water quality, wildlife and recreational users. Baykeeper is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Visit us online at www.baykeeper.org.

The Swim

The 9-mile swim begins at Needles Rock (located between the north tower of the Golden Gate Bridge and Horseshoe Bay) and finishes at the Emeryville Marina. Swim times are expected to range from 2.5 to 4.0 hours. Water temperature is expected to be 61 degrees.

The Relay

Relay teams consist of three (3) swimmers. (Solo swimmers and two-person relay teams are allowed with prior approval, subject to skill level and cold water swimming experience.) Each team is responsible for supplying a motorized escort boat equipped with a VHF marine radio (we can help you with these arrangements if necessary).

Fundraising

Each three-person team pledges to raise $1,000 to support San Francisco Baykeeper's work to protect San Francisco Bay from pollution. Each swimmer may set up a personal fundraising page to invite friends and supporters to participate.

Registration

Each swimmer must register for the event separately. Your registration fee helps cover Baykeeper's administrative costs for putting on the swim.

Awards

San Francisco Baykeeper will host a post-swim awards ceremony and refreshments at Emeryville Marina. A special award will be given to the team that raises the most money for Baykeeper!
