Description
The 2010 Pacific Open Water consists of a 2K Open Water Pursuit and 4K Open Water Pursuit on June 6th, 2010 in Marine Stadium in Long Beach, California. The 2K Open Water Pursuit will be held first, followed by the 4K Open Water Pursuit. Athletes can enter the races as Solo Swimmers, Trio Teams (3 swimmers) or Quad Squads (4 swimmers). Solo Swimmers will start first as a group, followed by the Trio Teams and the Quad Squads. Both the Trio Teams and Quad Squads will begin in staggered starts, randomly selected. The Trio Teams and Quad Squads must start and finish together and are encouraged to use an aquatic peloton strategy. Open Water Pursuit, a new event at the World Championship level beginning in 2011, places a premium on drafting, positioning and pacing skills. The official time of the Trio Teams and Quad Squads is when all members cross the finish line together. The Open Water Pursuit entry fee includes free admission to 5 different Drafting, Positioning and Pacing clinics held on May 22nd, May 23rd, May 29th and May 30th in Santa Monica and Corona del Mar, as well as a final clinic on the race course in Marine Stadium on June 5th from 9:30-11:00 (see www.PacificOpenWater.com for more details).
