Brief Description

The Tour of Buoys is not a USMS sanctioned event & is restricted to current members of La Jolla Cove Swim Club. Non-members may join for for a pro-rated fee. Each 5 mile participant must provide their own paddler escort and may compete in regulation or non-regulation (wetsuits OK, no fins) division. 1.5 mile competitors can choose a regulation division or a non-regulation division which allows for wetsuit and/or fins. Regulation competitors, only, are eligible for age group awards.

Kayak Rentals

Due to contractual agreements between the City of San Diego & kayak tour/rental operators in the La Jolla Shores area, the Swim Club has made special arrangements with La Jolla Kayak & the SD City Lifeguards for La Jolla Kayak to provide rental kayaks to event participants between the hours of 7 am & 1 pm on Sun, Aug 14. Please contact LJ Kayak & identify yourself as a Tour of Buoys participant, & they will make arrangements to deliver & pick up your rental kayak at LJ Shores on race day.

San Diego Junior Lifeguard Foundation

The La Jolla Cove Swim Club will be including a Junior Lifeguard division again this year. Proceeds from this division will be donated to the San Diego Junior Lifeguard Foundation. Additional Information

2011 marks the 13h year of this open water event, staged in the La Jolla Ecological Reserve, which is seaside of Kellogg Park in La Jolla, California. The course begins near the boat launch area on La Jolla Shores Beach and then follows the perimeter buoys of the La Jolla Ecological Reserve. The Start/Finish area is located south of the centrally located parking lot and Main Lifeguard Tower in Kellogg Park. Ocean water temperature in August is usually 68-72 degrees Fahrenheit.
