Swim distance is 1.5 miles (2.5 K). The swim will start on the north side of Scripps pier at 9:00 AM. Registration and check-in will begin at 7:30 AM in Scripps’ parking lot just south of the Pier. The race will finish at La Jolla Cove, where hot and cold drinks and food will be served.
If you need a ride to the Pier, we will offer free shuttle services from the Cove to the shore at 8 AM. Swimmers may leave their belongings with event volunteers, who will deliver them back to the Cove, where they will be guarded.
Swimmers may wear wetsuits, fins, masks and snorkels, but this will be considered “non-regulation”. Regulation swimmers (no wetsuits or fins), only, will be eligible for awards.
Trophies will be awarded to the 1st place male and female “regulation” swimmers. Finish times for all swimmers will be posted on the Club’s website within 7 days following the event.
For insurance purposes, all participants must be members of the La Jolla Cove Swim Club. For non-members, we offer a half-year membership for this event. (See non-member categories, which include membership fee). Minimum age for thhis swim is 16. Parental approval is required for swimmers younger than 18.
Applications from swimmers younger than 16 will be considered on an individual basis, but they must apply before June 10, and they will be required to have their own kayak support and an adult (over 18) escort swimmer. Names and contact information for the kayaker and support swimmer must be written on the back of this entry form. Approval is at the discretion of the event director. A monitored trial swim may be required before approval is granted.
A free event T-shirt will be included only for entries received in the PO Box or on Active.com by June 10. Postmark date will not count. Mail early, use certified mail, or take it directly to the post office in La Jolla. Event T shirts will not be provided for entries received after June 10, including beach entries. We will not order extra event T-shirts for sale. We expect many beach registrations.
This event is for experienced ocean swimmers who are prepared for a swim of 1.5 miles in open ocean, “rough water” conditions. We will provide kayak support, but we cannot guarantee the safety of swimmers, especially for those who are unprepared.
