Additional Information
This is the historic, classic swim pioneered by Anna Fugina Pennella in 1977. It has become a great tradition in long distance endurance swims. We feel it is a one of a kind and a must do for any distance swimmer or athlete who appreciates a good challenge. This swim has been written about in Captain Tim Johnson's book, "The History of Open Water Marathon Swimming." When you finish YOU will become a part of this amazing piece of history.
RULES
This year will feature a two wave start. Slower swimmers (40 plus minute pool miles) will begin at 6:30. Faster swimmers (less than 30 minute pool miles) will begin 30 minutes later. Those swimmers in the middle can go either way. This is designed to give slower swimmers a chance to take advantage of the tides.
Each swimmer must be accompanied by one support boat/kayak for the duration of the swim.
Team swim- one boat/kayak per team. NO BOAT/KAYAK OR CREW – NO SWIM.
A swimmer pennant flag (we provide this) must be clearly visible on the boat/kayak.
Swimmers may not touch the boat/kayak or the ocean bottom (the only exception is rule # 8).
Rule#8: In the event of an electrical storm, swimmers will be allowed to seek safety on land, without disqualification, however in resuming the swim they must reenter the water in the same area as they exited. The clock remains running.
Swimmers must swim around all piers! Do not attempt to swim under the piers!
Relay swimmers must complete their leg of the relay before exiting the water (example: 4.2 miles for the 3 person; 6.3 miles for the 2 person)
No fins, wet suits or flotation devises will be allowed.
