Brief Description

The Pennock Island Challenge is an 8.2 mile ocean race around Pennock Island Alaska. The race was started in 2004 as a fundraiser for the American Diabetes asscication. Race course is circular and you can expect a small current assist. Water temperature at this time of year in southern southeast Alaska is expected to be between 55 - 60 degrees F.

Travel

Travel to Ketchikan is limited to Alaska airlines and the Alaska Marine highway system.

Registration

Early registration begins Jan 15 2010 and end May 2 2008. The price is 150.00 for solo swimmers and 130.00/relay member. Late registration starts May 2 2008 and ends June 1 2010. Fees for late registration solo are 200.00 and relays go to 200.00/relay member.

Relay Entry

Relay teams will enter by mail. A relay registration form can be downloaded from the website at www.alaskateamada.com. Only complete registrations will be accepted incomplete entries will be returned.

Awards

Each sucessfull swimmer/relay will receive a certificate with their time and place and a medal. We also give special awards to the swimmer that has traveled the farthest.

Fundraising

We encourage all participants to fundraise additional support for the American diabetes association. Prizes are given to the swimmers that raise the most money.

Banquet

The banquet will take place Sunday August 14 2010 at the Sunny Point Conference Room. The start time of the banquet will be 6:30 pm. The meal provided will consists of locally caught Salmon, salad, rice/potato, desert and drinks. We will have a cash bar serving what ever you want. Each swimmer gets 2 banquet tickets. Extra tickets can be purchased when you register

Kayak escorts

We can provide a limited number of kayak escorts. In the past we have always had enough. We assign kayakers in the order that persons register.

Additional Information

Event is open to masters registered swimmers. Swimmers may enter as Male and Female Solo Swimmers. A total of 22 solo swimmers will be allowed. Relays may enter in 2 or 4 person in the following catagories Male/Female/Mixed. A total of 10 relays will be allowed to enter. Relays enter by mail and can download the entry form from the pennock website. Wetsuits are allowed but will have their own divsion. If one person in a relay wears a wetsuit then the entire relay is in the wetsuit catagory. We can supply a minimum number of escort boats and kayakers free of charge on a first come basis. When we run out of volonteer escorts we will assist swimmers in finding the lowest cost escort. Contact us to check on the availability of volunteer escorts through the Pennock website.
