Junior Viking Volleyball (Grades 7-8)

About This Activity

The Stoughton Recreation Department is teaming up with Stoughton Girls Volleyball Coach Kelly Sorensen to offer volleyball instruction for girls in grades 4-8. Participants will learn proper fundamentals and techniques of volleyball.  There is a major emphasis on sportsmanship, teamwork and having fun!  No equipment is necessary besides gym clothes and shoes (may wear kneepads).  This is a great introductory program for volleyball, as well as a way to improve current skill levels.

Coach Kelly Sorensen has played volleyball for thirteen years, including club, high school, and college ball.  Her college career began at DI Western Illinois University and concluded at DIII UW-Whitewater.  While attending UW-Whitewater, she played in an NCAA Division III Final Four (2006) and National Championship Match (2007), and received WIAC Honorable Mention All-Conference and NCAA Elite Eight All-Tournament Team Awards.  Coach Sorensen has been instructing youth in volleyball for over six years; including one year as a JV Coach at Whitewater High School, one year as a Freshman Coach at Stoughton High School, and various summer camps.  She is currently going into her second year as Stoughton High School's Head Volleyball Coach, and has been teaching physical education at Fox Prairie Elementary for three years.
