Water Safety Instructor Course

The purpose of the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor course is to train instructor candidates to teach and conduct Swimming and Water Safety Program courses, including Basic Water Rescue course, the six levels of Learn-to Swim, Parent and Child Aquatics among others. Prerequisites: -Must be 16 -Must have successfully completed the FIT course(will be offered as part of class on 5/10). -Must pass a pre-course skills test. -Skills evaluation includes the following skills: -Demonstrate swimming skills consistent with the stroke performance charts of Level 4. -Swim the following strokes for 25 yards each: front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, elementary backstroke, sidestroke, and the butterfly for 15 yards. -Maintain position on back 1 minute in deep water (float or sculling). -Tread water for 1 minute. Class fills quickly, please register early.
Class will meet at both the community center and the pool.
