South Mountain Soccer is a recreational soccer program sponsored by the South Orange Department of Recreation & Cultural Affairs for South Orange and Maplewood children in grades 3 through 8. The program offers a wide range of opportunity for players at all skill levels in the fall and/or spring seasons. Each season is approximately 10 weeks long and includes professional training one day a week and a game each weekend. There are no tryouts for this program. Children are registered in the age/grade appropriate division.
Generally, the divisions are broken down as follows:
U10* - Grades 3 and 4
U12* - Grades 5 and 6
U14* - Grades 7 and 8
* Players must be below the league age as of August 1, 2012 for the spring 2013 season. (For example: a U10 player can not turn 10 before August 1, 2012).
SPRING SCHEDULING NOTES: The spring season is tentatively scheduled to begin the week of March 24th and ends in mid-June. Practices are held one day a week. Players will be notified of training site, training day and team assignment in mid-March. Generally, each team will play about 10 games in a season. Home games are played in South Orange and away games in nearby communities on Saturday or Sunday, depending on field availability.
Training for U10 (Grades 3 and 4) boys and girls will likely be held 5:45-7:15 pm on Tuesday or Thursday. Training for U12 (Grades 5 and 6) and U14 (Grades 7 and 8) divisions will likely be held 7:30-9:00 pm on Tuesday or Thursday. These schedules are subject to change, pending final registration levels in each division.
Registration for the spring season of South Mountain Soccer begins February 1st. EARLY REGISTRATION IS ENCOURAGED! Registration will end February 16th or when the program is fully enrolled, whichever comes first.
Players are encouraged to place their name on the waiting list if their age division fills up. If a sufficient number of players do so, additional teams may be created and those on the waiting list will be contacted.
