Additional Information
All races will be held on the Pincushion Trails, 2.5 miles north of Grand Marais on the Gunflint Trail. There will be Pisten Bully snowcat grooming, wider trails, a wave start area, and a comfortable warming building at the main overlook trailhead / start area. There will be self seeded mass start races for both races. The classic race is 10 km; the freestyle race is 20k. The classic technique race starts at 10 am; the freestlye race starts at approximately 11:00 am or a little later when the track is clear.
Registration and Check-In
Advance registration is appreciated and encouraged. However, skiers may register and pick-up race packets on the day of the race. Registration / packet pick-up will be open 6 pm - 9 pm Friday night at at the Cook County Community Center (1/2 block west of old High School location; look for the hockey rink) in conjunction with the pasta feed. Late comers can
pick up packets or register on Saturday morning 8 am - 9 am at the Pincushion warming chalet (race start area). The lighted trail will be open on Friday night until10pm! However the remainder of the course will close for race prep at 6 pm on Friday. Skiers must provide their own transportation to the Pincushion start area.
Awards and Pasta Feed
The Cook County Youth Ski League will sponsor a pasta feed on Friday night from
6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cook County Community Center (see directions above) to help
skiers and spectators replenish energy stores for the Saturday races.
Awards will be presented at the Pincushion Trail Center Building following each race.
