What's Included

This course is designed to aid the student in acquiring the skills needed to survive an unexpected short-term (24-48 hour) survival scenario while awaiting rescue or assistance. The course will focus on the important aspects of short term survival including shelter construction, fire starting, and water collection/purification. This will be a strenuous program involving an approximate 1-mile hike to the exercise site and an overnight stay in a shelter constructed by the student with materials pro-vided by the student. It is IMPORTANT the student bring all of the equipment and supplies listed on the equipment list which will be provided upon pre-registration. Each item on the list will be needed during the course. The course will also be discussing basic wilderness Search & Rescue techniques and Landing Zone preparation and safety. An optional segment on Land Navigation will also be available. Students must be at least 18 years of age (unless participating as a member of a BSA troop). Class will be conducted on Friday evening from 6pm-10pm at the Sissonville High School. Class will reconvene Saturday morning at 11am at the high school from where we will convoy approximately 15 miles to the field exercise site. We will remain at the exercise site overnight and the course will conclude at approximately noon on Sunday. Pre-Requisites: NIMS 100
