What's Included

Do you play violin, viola or cello? Learn how to improvise and play jazz tunes in a supportive and creative environment with other string players. You'll step outside the 'classical music box' and dive into jazz and improvisation in a strings big band with a full rhythm section. This ensemble is geared for intermediate to advanced players of all stringed instruments in grades 7-12. No jazz experience is necessary. Come with an open mind and an expectation of fun times ahead! *We need a jazz rhythm section. If you play piano, guitar, bass or drums and can sight read music, please sign up! Instructor Beth Fortune: Director of Orchestras and Eclectic Strings at Seattle’s Washington Middle School, and the Director of Educational Programming at the Wintergrass Music Festival Music arranged for this project by David Marriott, Jr., award-winning jazz trombonist, performer, composer and educator.
