What's Included

The more one reads in a genre, the better one’s writing in that genre becomes—but students are generally asked to write far more nonfiction than they are assigned to read. In this course, students will read an assortment of contemporary creative nonfiction, including memoir, personal essay, and flash nonfiction; they will discuss the elements that make works of nonfiction engaging and effective; and they will practice writing their own creative nonfiction, focusing on developing voice and being more strategic about structure and storytelling. (Note: all college essays are personal essays!) Taught by Ms. Jen Dotsey. Writing for 11th Grade is open to students who will be a junior at Seattle Prep in the 2015-2016 school year.
