Seminole Cyclefest presented by United Healthcare was conceived in 2009 to offer a cycling event that would be unique and enjoyable while serving its primary mission of aiding veterans and first responders in their reconditioning and rehabilitation from injuries sustained while serving.
Seminole Cyclefest presented by United Healthcare will be held on 04 Nov 2012 in Sanford with a new venue but the same key players who make the event special. Davids World Cycles provides all bicycling support before and during the event. The American Legion Auxiliary provides all registration and sag support.
The Seminole County Sheriffs Office adds the element that makes the event unique and enjoyable for the riders Full Course Escort. Imagine riding through the rustic rural countryside and magnificent residential areas with full escort of the Sheriff';s motorcycle unit. As we ride between support stops, we have the luxury of socializing with old and new acquaintances and interacting with some of Americas genuine heroes without undo concern for traffic.
Tragically, in 2011, Seminole County suffered two losses. The Sheriff';s son, Donny Eslinger was seriously wounded in Afghanistan and remains in recovery. Second, Matt Miller, one of the motorcycle officers who had escorted the Cyclefest, was killed in the line of duty while apprehending a violator.
Seminole Cyclefest - 2012 will honor these two men and to recognize the sacrifice they and many of their comrades have made in the defense of our freedom and security. We also ride to honor the many Seminole County veterans who quietly go about their lives as productive citizens knowing that when duty called they answered that call.
This year Sanford has offered the beautiful Ft. Mellon Park overlooking Lake Monroe for a picturesque staging and start for the event. Riders will depart Ft. Mellon and select one of two distances, 60 miles or 25 miles for their fully escorted and supported ride through Seminole County.
