A distance race consisting of two legs — an opening 10-kilometer leg, followed by a five-kilometer leg, with a break in between — the Double is the brainchild of running visionary and innovator Bob Anderson, founder of Runner’s World magazine, which he published for 18 years, and an avid runner.
Double Road Racing is a new sport. We like to call it ”The Double.” The first Double Road Race® was held in the United States and drew 1400 runners to Pleasanton, California on Dec 23, 2012. It was a huge success and on that day, a new sport was born. The Double Road Race is a 15k distance race consisting of two legs (10k + 5k) with a halftime in between. It’s new, it’s innovative and the strategies for runners is uniquely different. It’s the only running event with a halftime that features The Recovery Zone. Bob Anderson, creator of Double Road Running, ran 50 races covering 350.8 miles and averaged 6:59/mile in 2012. Bob is an avid runner for 51 years and founder and former publisher of Runner’s World magazine for 18 years.
