What's Included

Who knew there was so much common ground between learning art and learning to code? In this one-of-a-kind class, we mix together tech and creativity - teaching kids to draw and paint like an artist and think like a coder. We start with the basics of art - campers hone their observations skills by breaking down objects into simple shapes to draw. Next, we explpre color, shading, and lighting in both the physical and digital worlds. Then campers work with charcoal, pastels, paint & more to explore how to shade, mix colors, and highlight objects to create their own masterpieces Campers explore the technology of color through drawing with pixels and understanding the basics of coding. Kids learn coding while “playing” in a variety of online, offline, and outdoor activities. Each day campers are challenged to build upon the principles they are learning - and to develop ideas in a collaborative environment. We use a variety of online applications to introduce key topics such as conditional statements, loops, variables, nested loops, and Boolean logic. The week wraps up with students creating their favorite drawing, tracing it, and then recreating their art in the digital world.
