The FIRST® LEGO® League is a robotics program ideally for 3-5th grade students. It is designed to show kids how exciting science, technology, and engineering can be. Research and problem solving are integral parts of these fields and keys to the success of any real-world engineering team. Teams of up to 10 students build and program an autonomous robot in order to solve a yearly “Challenge” announced by First Lego League. LEGO MINDSTORMS® robot set is used as the platform technology that students use to score points on a thematic playing surface, create an innovative solution to a problem as part of their Project. Throughout the season, your child might work with teammates on tasks such as: • Building a LEGO MINDSTORMS robot and attachments • Programming the robot to move on its own and perform missions • Learning about engineering and physics concepts (sometimes learning them the hard way) • Testing different designs and making adjustments • Learning about the Challenge theme • Choosing a real-world problem to research • Inventing a solution to the problem the team chose • Presenting the team’s solution to other people (7 classes) Minimum of 6 students Instructor: Marc Muroff Dates: 11/13, 12/4, 12/11, 12/18, 1/8, 1/15, 1/22 Snacks will be provided.
