Camp: Principles of Scientific Research Design Week Day: Monday – Friday Date: June 9-June 27 Time: 1-3 PM Location: Coates 211 Instructor: Dr. Ashley Fiamengo Price: $ 300 & $50 lab supplies fee Description: Students entering grades 6-11 Designed for students entering grades 6-11 with an interest in learning the fundamentals of scientific research. No previous experience is necessary, although students with a previous background in science fair competitions and/or original research projects may continue their programs in this course, as well. Topics studied will include designing a viable research question, fundamentals of experimental design, including initial observation collection, hypothesis writing, various data collection techniques, technical writing, and effective presentation skills. Students will produce a question to study, devise a testable hypothesis, design a protocol to test their hypothesis, conduct an experiment, keep a lab notebook, critically analyze results, and design an effective presentation of their results. Supplies: A bound notebook, ½ inch ring binder, black pen, poster board (provided), flash drive. Minimum Number of Students: 3 REFUND POLICY: A $25.00 dollars processing fee will be charged to all cancellations. No refunds will be granted for cancellations or changes made in the Sports Camps after the start date. PAYMENT POLICY: All camps must be paid in full by the first day of the camp. Failure to do this will result in your child being cancelled from the camp.
