University of Maryland Eastern Shore School of Pharmacy's Student Government Association has felt the need to help fight for those with epilepsy. Our purpose for having this run/walk is to express our passion to find a cure for epilepsy and get the community involved with our mission to advance research. Please join us as we raise awareness in the community and advance research.

Epilepsy is a brain disorder that is characterized by a person having 2 or more seizures which require a person to seek treatment. According to the Epilepsy Foundation, Epilepsy affects over 3 million Americans of all ages ? more than Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, and Parkinson?s Disease combined. Since the mortality rate of those with epilepsy is 2-3 times higher and the risk of sudden death is 24 times greater than the average person, our organization has concluded this condition as a health disparity that requires immediate attention.

Our goal is to raise over $1000 to donate towards epilepsy research. We understand the shortage in funding for epilepsy which is why we have decided to donate such a large portion. We are very excited to host this event and a few of the local sponsors we have gained support from thus far are Food Lion, Famous Dave?s, Jiffy Lube, VP Shoes, and also Olive Garden. Also, the Epilepsy Foundation here on the Eastern Shore has agreed to support this event the day of by setting up a table and passing out valuable information regarding epilepsy. We will continue to seek sponsorship, create prizes, and raise awareness in the months to come. Epilepsy is real, our prayers are real, and we want to do everything we can to develop a real cure. We look forward to this event and we welcome all support that is received.
