Sign Up for a 10K Online Training Plan

As an added benefit to runners ActiveTrainer offers ActiveTrainer coaches to provide training plans specifically for this race. These plans are designed for athletes of ALL levels, from the first-timer all the way up to the most experienced athlete. Included with your training plan is an online calendar, reporting tools, training calculators, maps, daily emails, and much more!

Race Course

The race course is USATF-certified (DC004002JS), relatively flat & scenic. It is an out & back course that starts at 3000 K Street, NW, proceeds to the Whitehurst Freeway & out Canal Road to Reservoir Road & back to the Washington Harbour. Water is available at the harbour before & after the race, on the course at four points, and at the finish line. Ice cold sponges for cooling down will also be available. Bikes, skaters, strollers, headsets & pets are prohibited on the 10K race course.

Walk Course

The Fun Walk is approximately 1.6 miles. Walkers start at the same location the race does, immediately following the runners. The walk will follow the Rock Creek Park Trail along the Potomac River to the Lincoln Memorial, and return to the Washington Harbour. Baby joggers and strollers are welcome. Pets are not allowed on the walk course but are welcomed at the post-race party at the Harbour. There will be one water stop on the walk route.

Extreme Weather Plan

In the event of extreme weather conditions, the race committee reserves the right to run the race as an untimed "fun run" or cancel the race without advance notice. Should this be necessary, runners will receive t-shirts & goody bags, post-race activities will be held, and winners' awards will be converted to random prizes. Entry fees will not be refunded.

Awards

Prizes are given to the top 5 M/F overall, top 5 M/F masters, top adaptive athlete, and top 3 M/F finishers in special categories: lawyer, legal assistant, legal secretary, law librarian, admin, summer associate, law student and CVD survivor. The first place M/F winner in each age category will also be awarded at the race. All other winners will receive prizes by mail. Age categories are: 19 and under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, and 80+.

ChronoTrack Timing and Scoring

Transponder timing operated by Pacers Events will be used to score the 10K race. The system uses a computer tag which is incorporated into the runner's bib and records the exact time a runner crosses the starting line and the finish line, resulting in a net time for each runner. The B-tag is disposable. Overall awards will be based upon clock time and age group awards will be based upon transponder times.

Are You a CVD Survivor?

We want to recognize all cardiovascular disease and stroke survivors who participate in our event. Please let us know you are a survivor when you register or arrive to volunteer and you will be directed to the Tribute Area where you can share your story and/or pick up a survivor cap.
