General
Now in its fifth year, this event combines a 5K run for people with a 1-mile walk for people with their dogs. Last year 112 people registered for the 5K run. Dwayne Reese won the race in 18:47. Tara Barrentine won the women’s competition setting a new women’s course record in the process of 21:54. Jarret Prady holds the men’s course record of 17:45 set in 2006.
Starting times
The start/finish area for the race is the Birthplace for Wake Forest College (405 North Main Street). The 5K race begins at 10:00 a.m. The starting time for the 1-mile dog walk is 10:15 am.
Course
The 5K course is certified. To download the course maps, go to http://www.usatf.org/events/courses/search/ and enter “NC05051PH” for the course number.
Entry Fees
The entry fees are $20 for the 5K and $15 for the dog walk. After September 28th both fees increase by $5. Those registering for the dog walk must have a current proof of rabies vaccination for their dog plus the dog must be accompanied by someone age 13 or older. A leash 6 foot or shorter and a plastic bag for cleaning up after your dog are also required. The entry fee includes a shirt (guaranteed if registered NLT September 28) plus a bandana for your dog.
Awards
In the 5K awards will be presented to the top three male finishers overall, to the top three female finishers overall, and to the first-pace finishers in each of the following age groups: (both sexes) 15-under, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 60-54, 55-59, 60-64, and 65-over.
