The Event

Runners start at 9:30am and walkers start at 8:30am. The course closes at 12:30pm, so be sure you can finish in the time allowed.

 

T-Shirt

A limited edition long sleeve Dri-Release T-shirt is available. Only pre-registered participants are guarenteed a shirt. Day of race entrants get shirts as quantities last. Register early to get yours!

 

Awards

Plaques to the overall male and female winners, and to the overall male and female masters winners. The top five finishers in each five year age group will earn ribbons. The walk is non-competitive. Awards will not be mailed. Hot soup, beverages and a random prize drawing will be at Anderson Park after the race. The awards ceremony starts at noon.

 

Fees

ORRC Member without shirt is $22. ORRC Member with shirt is $42. Non-ORRC member without shirt is $27. Non-ORRC member with shirt is $47. Day of race is $40 without shirt and $60 with shirt. No ORRC discount day of race.

 

Race Results

Results will be published in the Oregon Distance Runner magazine and posted at www.orrc.net

 

Directions

From Portland, take Highway 26 west to the Highway 47 exit (just past Manning). Go north until you reach Vernonia. Turn right as Highway 47 turns into Bridge Street. Turn right on Jefferson Avenue. Carpooling is encouraged!

 

Parking

Only official race vehicles will be allowed in Anderson Park. Participants and volunteers should park on city streets and at Vernonia High School. Participants will be bussed from the finish line back to Anderson Park for the awards ceremony.

This event is open to all runners and walkers. but youcan save money by joining ORRC. You save on entry fees ($5 per event), plus get great benefits by joining the club. You will receive the Oregon Distance Runner magazine, get discounts at local running stores, join others for training runs and more. Pay an additional fee of $30 (individual) or $40 (family) for membership.

The Course:

The ORRC Vernonia Half Marathon begins in Anderson Park in Vernonia and proceeds directly to the Vernonia-Banks State Trail. The course runs along the Vernonia Banks State Trail--paved and gravel trails through scenic woods on an abandoned railroad bed, finishing in Stub Stewart State Park. The course is generally flat with only two hills (120 feet downhill, then back uphill) at the burned out trestle near mile 8. The trail crosses several roads, but is otherwise closed to traffic. Aid stations and traffic control will be provided. The race is point to point. Participants will put a change of clothes in bags that will be available at the finish area. Participants will be bussed from the finish back to Vernonia for the awards ceremony.
