Brief Description

The SFoR offers runners and walkers of all ages, abilities, and levels of experience a safe and superlative road running and walking experience. Both 5K races offer net timing as well as gun timing, including a recorded halfway split. All four events include a race shirt with entry. Whether you're a first-time participant or a world-class runner, you'll be glad to be part of the event "where ordinary people do extraordinary things."

Additional Information

5K COURSE Our 5K races are run on the USATF-certified and validated out-and-back course (NY97047AM) that has hosted 35 US 5K age group records and hundreds of 5K PRs. This is the same course that hosted the four of the ten fastest 5K road times run anywhere in the world in 2002. Water is available at two points on the 5K course, and split times will be called at the mile mark and at each kilometer. As always--thanks to great support from the Syracuse Police Department--the entire course will be closed to traffic. MVP Health Care 3K Fun & Fitness Run and Tops Friendly Markets Community Walk Both the 3K Fun & Fitness Run and the Community Walk will cover the first and last 1.5 kilometers of the 5K course (turning around roughly opposite the basketball courts at Barry Park). Fun runners and walkers who want to cover a shorter course may turn around at any of the intersections on Meadowbrook Drive. For the safety of our many young participants in the 3K, the course will be closed to traffic and water will be available at the 3K turnaround. PARKING GETTING HERE: The Lampe Athletic Complex surrounds Manley Field House at the intersection of Comstock Avenue and East Colvin Street in Syracuse. PARKING IS FREE IN THE MANLEY FIELD HOUSE LOTS, and NO PARKING IS ALLOWED ON THE RACE COURSES. ANYONE WITH SPECIAL PARKING NEEDS--INCLUDING GROUPS WITH BUSES--SHOULD CALL DAVE OJA (446-6285) PRIOR TO SEPTEMBER 22! Those arriving prior to 8:45 should park in the SOUTH parking area of Manley Field House (enter the lots from Colvin Street). Those arriving later than 8:45 should avoid Lancaster Avenue and use either Comstock Avenue or the Slocum Heights-Small Road detour off East Colvin Street. AMENITIES The first 1,000 registered 5K participants are guaranteed a 2011 Festival of Races tech shirt and a $5 Bonus Certificate for Dick's Sporting Goods. Registered participants in the MVP Health Care 3K Fun & Fitness Run and the Tops Friendly Markets Community Walk will receive a colorful, 100% cotton race t-shirt. Everyone with a bib number is eligible to enjoy an outstanding array of post-race refreshments. The top three finishers in each of 28 age and gender categories in our 5K races will share $2,465 in Dick's Sporting Goods Bonus Certificates. We will continue to offer a $1,000 course record bonus in both the Men's 5K and Women's 5K. In addition, we are once again awarding a minimum of $9,000 to top individuals and club teams in the 2011 USA Masters 5K Championshps for men and women, and our very popular two-person family team competition in nine categories.
