Brief Description

Join us for the fifth annual Stone Ridge 5K Race for Education. The 5K starts at 9 am with the Fun Run beginning at 8:30. A family-friendly event with abundant prizes, 5 year age groups, disposable ChronoTrack D-tag timing, and a flat, fast course make this event perfect for everyone. Join us as we raise money for the Dulles South area schools.

Special Coach Eric Olsen Scholarship

Stone Ridge 5k presents its second annual Coach Eric Olsen scholarship award to a graduating senior at Freedom High School in honor of Eric's dedication to his students, lacrosse, and cross country athletes. His presence and leadership in the school and community continue to be missed.

Charity Beneficiary

This event is designed to benefit education in the local elementary and middle schools. The Loudoun County school system has added 3,000 students per year for the last ten years, and as new schools including Buffalo Trail ES have opened in the Dulles South area infrastructure needs often must wait for funding to catch-up. We hope to engage your support for a great activity for a very worthwhile cause as we help supplement the environment for our children’s future.

Sign Up for an 5K Online Training Plan

The Stone Ridge 5K has teamed up with ActiveTrainer coaches to provide training plans specifically for this race. These plans are designed for athletes of ALL levels, from the first-timer all the way up to the most experienced athlete. Included with your training plan is an online calendar, reporting tools, training calculators, maps, daily emails, and much more!

Awards

Awards will be given to the top three overall males and females, and the first three male and female finishers in the following age groups: 9 and under, 10 - 11, 12 - 14, 15 - 19, 20 - 24, 25 - 29, 30 - 34, 35 - 39, 40 - 44, 45 - 49, 50 - 54, 55 - 59, 60 - 64, 65 and over.

Certified 5K Course

There is a new course being developed for 2010. See the race Web site for the map. The course is a loop through the Stone Ridge community with the start and finish in the same places as before.

Fun Run

The children's fun run will start at the 5K start/finish line at 8:30 am. The kids receive a t-shirt and a medal when they finish. Register early and save as the fee increases to $15 on Thursday, October 14.

School Contest - Stone Ridge 5K Cup

There is a contest between the participating schools in which the school with the biggest percentage turnout for the 5K and fun run wins the Stone Ridge 5K Cup, a traveling trophy, a small cash award, and bragging rights. Get everyone at your school to join the fun! Past winners are Pinebrook ES, Arcola ES, and Liberty ES.

ChronoTrack Timing and Scoring

Transponder timing operated by Capital Running Company will be used to score the 5K race. The system uses a computer "tag" which must be tied to each runners' shoelaces and records the exact time a runner crosses the starting line and the finish line, resulting in a net time for each runner. The D-tag is disposable. Overall awards will be based upon clock time and age group awards will be based upon transponder times.
