Brief Description

Music, crafts and Post-race Pancake Breakfast for everyone! Join us in experiencing the joy of helping children at the Child Rescue Center, and Mercy Hospital in Bo, Sierra Leone, Africa.

Prizes

Awarded to the top 3 overall male and female runners, in addition to awards to the top finishers in each age group both male and female. The age groups are 14 and under, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60+. All Fun Run/Tot Dash participants will receive an award. Prizes will be custom made in Bo, Sierra Leone and will be awarded at our Fun Run Festival following the race.

Shirts

Technical dri-fit race shirts are guaranteed for all early registrants and will be available to late registrants as supplies last.

Course Information

Run starts and finishes at Ebenezer United Methodist Church (161 Embry Mill Rd. Stafford, VA). The Go For Bo 5K will use Precision Race timing services to record the results of runners. Each 5K runner is provided a Jaguar disposable bib-chip as part of their race materials. The disposable RFID timing chip is permanently attached to the runner’s bib. Fun Run participants will not be timed via chip. Kids and strollers are welcome, but for safety reasons, please leave your pets at home.

Helping Children Worldwide is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization. HCW focuses on children and health issues in Sierra Leone, Africa. After being ravaged by a 10 year civil war, Sierra Leone is one of the poorest countries in the world. A broken infrastructure and endemic poverty impact every area of their lives. There is a 35% literacy rate in Sierra Leone, and 1 in 7 women die giving birth. In 2000 the Child Rescue Centre opened in Bo, Sierra Leone to support 40 children, today the CRC supports nearly 250 children providing them shelter, food, clothing, education and a family. In 2007 Mercy Hospital opened in Bo, Sierra Leone to provide medical care regardless of ability to pay. Today Mercy Hospital serves around 900 patients a month and has developed thriving community outreach programs.
