Brief Description

While the first 400 runners receive a free T-shirt -- with our famous Somerville 5K logo -- additional shirts will be available on race day. please be sure to tell us if you want to buy one for $10 and what your size is.

9:00 am sharp!

Registration & Check In

ON-LINE REGISTRATION IS OPEN and will save you a lot of time on race day. Wheelchairs must pre-register by September 29 to ensure safety precautions with local police. For your safety and that of your fellow runners, we ask you to refrain from wearing headphones during the race, nor run with your dog. We ask that anyone running with a baby stroller start at the back of the race.

Directions to Davis Square

From Mass Pike (I-90) exit I-95/Rte 128 north to Rte 2. Exit Rte 2 east to Rte 16. Left on Rte 16 at traffic lights. Go to second set of traffic lights on Rte 16, take a right on Broadway (supermarket on far right corner). Go 2 sets of lights, bear right on Holland Street (Rudys — mexican restaurant on right) Go approximately 1/4 of a mile, the MBTA Red Line T-Stop is on right. Please note: there is a municipal parking lot on the right just before the T-Stop.

We are located at the Davis Square stop on the Red Line. We offer baggage-checking during the race.

Course

Urban, varied terrain, one major hill, arrows at all turns, mile-markers. 5K (3.1 miles). Certified #MA01024RN

Professional, computerized timing and results by Spitler Race Systems.

Award Categories for Runners

19 and under; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70+; Clydesdales, Fillys, and wheelchairs. Trophies awarded to top overall male and female, and to top team. Prizes will be awarded to top male and female in each category; medals to the top three place finishers.

The Steve Burton Award

Awarded for the highest pledges.
Steve Burton was instrumental in the success of the SHC 5k. A participant the first year, Steve returned the next year on the race committee, offering a runner’s insight. The race flourished within a few years. Steve also directed a popular Thanksgiving race. These races raised thousands of dollars for the Somerville community. Steve himself was a passionate and accomplished runner. Steve Burton passed away recently at age 54 from kidney cancer.

About the Somerville Homeless Coalition

All proceeds from the race benefit the Somerville Homeless Coalition, an innovative non-profit organization that provides a wide range of social services to the Somerville area’s homeless, near-homeless and working poor. The Coalition is committed to providing those in need with a range of services including emergency shelters, permanent housing for formerly homeless, educational services, food pantry and meal services, and comprehensive case management.
