This is a new race for Eastern North Carolina put on by the folks at Johnston Health. The race will start and finish at the Johnston Medical Center located at 509 North Brightleaf Boulevard in Smithfield. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Emergency Services Campaign to expand the Emergency Department of the Medical Center to better meet the needs of the community.
Participants have the option of signing up as a runner or a walker. Those who register as a “runner” (regardless of whether they run or walk) will receive an official time and be eligible for awards. Those who register as a “walker” (once again, regardless of whether they run or walk) will not receive an official time or be eligible for awards.
The entry fee for the 5K Run is $25: for the 5K Walk, it is $20. After October 10, both fees increase by $5. There is no charge for children ages 12 or under registering for the 5K Walk. T-shirts are guaranteed to all pre-registered runners. The fee also includes a sandwich, fruit and a drink.
Pre-registered runners can pick up their packets and late entrants can register at the race beginning at 7 am.
Awards will be given to the top three male finishers and to the top three female finishers in the 5K Run.
In addition to the 5K, the event will include vendors, food, jump houses, a Halloween costume contest for kids, and a FREE Monster Dash for kids.
