Additional Information
The Course
The Shiprock Marathon course is certified by USATF (NM04003DS). The Marathon and
5-Person Relay begin in Red Valley near the Arizona-New Mexico border. The course finishes in Shiprock. The course has a net loss of over 1200 feet and includes some significant inclines along the way. Although altitude and hills do not make for your typical PR course, many people find their times better than expected, perhaps due to generally mild spring weather, the downhill trend and great scenery. A course map and a detailed altitude graph are available on the website: http://www.shiprockmarathon.com/
The Half Marathon begins one hour after the marathon at mile 13.1 of the marathon course and follows the route into town. The 10K Trail Walk begins and ends in town at Dine’ College and covers a gently rolling out-and-back course with stunning views of the Shiprock.
Relay Team Rules:
Relay teams must have five different runners and must be co-ed (at least one of each gender) in order to be eligible for awards.
Relay Team Captain must be one of the five runners.
Each runner may run on only one team and for one leg of the relay event.
Relay teams will compete in four age categories based on the total age of the team on race day. The categories are: 125 & below; 126-175; 176-225; and 226 & above
Awards will be given to the first three teams in each age category
Team member changes may be made through an Addendum to Relay Team Registration through Active.com. New team member must complete Addendum Registration online and pay an additional fee of $35 (early) or $40 (regular).
No changes to teams may be made after April 28.
The 10K Trail Walk
The non-competitive 10K Trail Walk will start and end at the Marathon finish line area in Shiprock. The easy and scenic trail follows a path up and around what is known as “Blueberry Hill” to local residents.
