Minimum Age Requirement

Must be 18 years of age on or before October 9th, 2011 in order to compete in The Steamtown Marathon. No exceptions.

Course Certification

The Steamtown Marathon is USATF-certified (PA 97033 WB) and is ranked as one of the fastest official qualifying events for the Boston Marathon. The course features a 955' drop in elevation from start to finish. Course closes 6 hours after the start. All runners are expected to maintain a 13 minute-per-mile pace or better.

Chip Timing

Timing will be via ChampionChip. A timing strip will be attached to each runner's bib number.

Information Packet

An information packet will be mailed to all entrants after September 1, 2011.

Wheelchair Competition

The Steamtown Marathon Course has several steep downhills. As a result, parts of the course are "controlled" for wheelchair competitors. A pace car will set the maximum speed that wheelchair competitors can race in the downhill sections. Wheelchair athletes must register by September 26th to give the race committee adequate time to make appropriate safety arrangements.

Pre-Race E-mails

As race day draws closer, event organizers will send race updates via mass e-mail to all registered runners from racecommittee@hotmail.com. Some entrants may not receive these e-mails due to spam filters, etc... Be advised that event organizers will also post the text of these e-mails on the Forum & E-Mails page of Steamtown's Web site: http://www.realbuzz.com/forums/the-steamtown-marathon/.

Additional Information

All runners are asked to be courteous to other participants and refrain from wearing MP3 players, I-Pods and similar listening devices. However, those who choose not to honor this request will not be disqualified.
