Event Overview

“Run for the Seals” (RFTS) is The Marine Mammal Center's annual fun run/walk and fundraiser. After a one year hiatus, the Center is excited to host the 2010 event and incorporate the event into its new facility that opened to the public in June 2009.

As one of the largest fundraising events in the Center's calendar, all proceeds from RFTS help to support The Marine Mammal Center's ongoing work to rescue and treat ill, injured and orphaned marine mammals.

Audience

The event is open to all ages and is perfect for runners (casual and pro), families, walkers, 'baby joggers' and ‘power-strollers’. There will also be a costume contest and dogs on leashes are welcome too!

Fees

Online Registration:

  • Adults $35 / Kids (12 & under) $20

  • Race Day Registration:

  • Adults $40 / kids (12 & under) $25
  • Kids 4 & under and dogs are free!

  • All adults who register online before March 10, 2010, will receive a FREE 2010 $25 Basic Membership to The Marine Mammal Center (available to non-members only, non-transferable).

An Active processing fee also applies.

    Route Details

The event takes place in the beautiful Marin Headlands, starting at Rodeo Beach and ending at Bunker Road near the new Center. This year’s event provides participants with two route options*:

  • The original 4-mile race: a road and dirt track route through the headlands (hilly in parts).
  • A new 2-mile scenic route: for those who want a shorter but quite challenging and rewarding walk with ocean views, refreshments and education stations along the way.
  • Road Closures

Please note, RACE ROADS CLOSE at 8.45am. Please make sure you are through the tunnel to the Marin Headlands and within the race area and parking lots by 8.45am.

    Registration & Check-In

Event day registration and check-in will begin at 7:30 AM. The 4-mile race will start at 9:30 AM, followed by the start of the 2-mile route, with winners and awards presented between 10.30-11.30am.

Visit www.RunForTheSeals.org for maps and directions.

    FUN DAY

After the event, all participants will be invited to attend our FUN DAY* which will take place at The Marine Mammal Center. During Fun Day, guests will enjoy complimentary food, drinks and tours, while learning about the important work of the Center.

    Prizes & Awards

Medals will be presented to the first, second and third place finishers of the 4-mile race - adults (male and female) and children age 12 and under. There are also prizes for the highest individual, child and team fundraisers as well as a costume contest!

    Additional Information

This year’s 4-mile race will be SELF-TIMED. There will be a digital clock at the finish line, but if you would like to know how fast you completed the run, please bring a stopwatch. (The cost savings we make by not having professional timed services, helps us care for many patients!) The 2-mile route is not a race and participants are encouraged to take this route at their own pace while enjoying the views and activities.

*Please note that any changes made to the race day, route formats and/or the Fun Day, are at the discretion of The Marine Mammal Center. Any changes will be communicated as soon as they become known.

Refund Policy: All race participant purchases are final. If you cannot participate, the entry fee will not be refunded and cannot be transferred to another competitor. If you have registered but are unable to attend the event, with written request, we will be happy to ship your 2010 Run for the Seals t-shirt for an additional payment of $5.95 to cover postage. Please send us your request via e-mail to dev@tmmc.org, or via mail and include your name, postal address, phone number and t-shirt size. Uncollected t-shirts will be kept for a registered participant for one calendar month after the event.
