Lace up your running shoes, and join us for Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo, scheduled for Sunday, September 16. Racers will have the opportunity to participate in a 5K or 10K course through the streets surrounding the Zoo. The Fun Walk takes place inside the Zoo and features special giveaways for participants. Proceeds benefit the Detroit Zoological Society and help to support the Ruth Roby Glancy Animal Health Complex and veterinary care for the Zoo's animals.
Fun Walk: $20; 5K Race: $25; 10K Race: $35; 15K (5K and 10K Combined Events): $45 until Sept 3 - 12AM (midnight PST) After Sept 3 Fun Walk: $25; 5K Race: $30; 10K Race: $35; 15K (5K and 10K Combined Event): $55
Each registered race participant will receive a Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo commemorative t-shirt and admission into the Detroit Zoo. Registration is required for people ages 2 and up. Zoo admission is required for non-race participants.
Packets can be picked up at the front of the Detroit Zoo on the following dates and times: Friday, September 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, September 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Sunday, September 16 from 6 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. Participants can also register on race day, Sunday, September 16 from 6 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. for the 5K, 10K or 15K. From 7:30 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. for the 1 Mile. NOTE: Packets must be picked up during one of the dates and times listed. PACKETS WILL NOT BE MAILED.
15K RUN: Again for 2012 there will be a 15K category. Each athlete registered for this event will start with the 5K course at 8:00 AM then continue to finish doing the 10K course. The 10K start is at 8:45AM. If you are finished with the 5K immediately go to the 10K start line. You will have a 5K and a 10K bib and timing chip for this category. There will not be an official "15K" start. You are eligible to win the 5K or 10K OR both.
5K AND 10K RUN: Flat course (wheelchair accessible) runs around the outside of the Detroit Zoo. 5K Start Time: 8:00AM 10K Start Time 8:45AM FUN WALK (noncompetitive/untimed) follows a path inside the Detroit Zoo. Fun Walk Start Time 9:00AM. For the safety of all participants, bicycles, skateboards, roller blades, roller skates and animals are not allowed in the Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo. Strollers are permitted for the Fun Walk and at the back of the 5K and 10K races.
Medals will be awarded to the top two male and female finishers in each age category for the 5K and 10K Runs. Age categories are: 14 and under, 15-18, 19-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70+.
The Post-Race Party, sponsored by Kroger, will take place immediately following the conclusion of the Run/Walk. The celebration, sponsored by Kroger, will include live entertainment, complimentary food and beverages, children’s activities, special appearances by the Detroit Zoo’s mascots and, of course, the Zoo's award-winning habitats. NOTE: Zoo admission is required for non-race participants.
Run Wild for the Detroit Zoo raises funds to help pay for equipment in the Ruth Roby Glancy Animal Health Complex and veterinary care for the Detroit Zoo animals.
