Event Description

The third annual Higgins Lake Sunrise Run will be held June 16,2012, Father's Day week-end at Higgins Lake N and S State Parks, one the top ten fresh water lakes in the nation. Register early to take part in a premier event that has offerings for all disciplines

Course Description

Courses will be well marked, including the mile point to point courses and looped courses for the 10k, 5k and Fun Run. The runs are all on well maintained multi-surface public roads and park avenues with enough maneuverability to accommodate multiple runners/walkers. There are no steep hills or elevations to contend with and no wading is required in the lake! Spectators can view racers at several points along all courses.

Other Information

All registered 10K and 5K and some Fun Runners runners will receive a race t-shirt. All half marathon participants will receive a moisture wicking shirt.

Directions Half Marathon

The Half Marathon will be staged beginning at the Higgins Lake North State Park and concluding at the Higgins Lake South State Park. The starting address is 11747 North Higgins Lake Drive. The Half Marathon begins at 7:30AM est. Buses leave the South State Park to the starting point at 6:50am and 7:00 am ONLY. Runners may seek own transportation to starting line.

Directions 10K, 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run

All races except the half marathon will be staged beginning in the South State Park with the Fun Run being run totally within the park. The Half Marathon begins at the North State Park and runners will be transported to that location.

Fun Run Details

Fun Run participants will not automatically receive a race t-shirt. The t-shirt is NOT included in the $5 registration fee. The Fun Run starts at 10:00 AM and is run wholly within the South State Park. T-shirts will be available for purchase on race day.

Medals and Trophies

In the half marathon, 10K and 5K, and each walk, first place runners, male and female, in each age bracket will receive a medal. All marathoners who compete and finish will receive a Finishing Medal. The overall winner in each race, male and female will receive a trophy.

Age brackets for 2012 are as follows: Under 15; 16-23; 24-31; 32-39; 40-47; 48-55; 55-62; Over 62

Pre-race Registration/Packet pick-up

Friday night June 15, 2012, Stone Turtle Yoga (9435 North Cut Rd. Roscommon, 48653) will host a pre-race yoga stretch and open house for all racers from 4:00-5:00 PM. Dinner will follow at the K of C Hall, 165 W Federal Highway, Roscommon, 48653, and will be served from 5:00 to 7:30 PM. It is a fundraiser. Packets may be picked up at this time and new registrations will be taken. Race Day registration and packet pickup will be at the South State Park ONLY starting at 6:00 am.

Pre-Race Yoga Stretch & Open House Stone Turtle

Friday, 4pm-5pm (before K of C dinner) Give your body one final tune-up before race day at the Stone Turtle Yoga pre-race yoga stretch! This 20 minute routine, led by registered yoga teacher Mariah Frye, will loosen and relax muscles by incorporating low intensity warm up techniques with targeted pre-run stretching. This invigorating yet mellow stretch session will leave you feeling energized and ready to do your best on race day! Open house and door prizes will follow

Additional Information

As this event is being staged from a Michigan State Park, participants who wish to bring their vehicle into the park will need a day pass or annual entrance sticker which may be purchased from the Department of Natural Resources.
