History

In 2012 a crowd of over 600 runners and walkers turned out for this event in downtown Raleigh. Paul Springer (16:05) was the overall winner. Sophia Ebihara ran 19:24 to win the women’s title. Course records are held by Abdul Alzindani (14:32) and Jemissa Hess (16:36).

Starting Times

The afternoon begins with the start of the 5K at 2 pm followed by the mile at 3pm and the Kids’ 100-Yard Dash at 3:15.

Entry fees/T-shirts

The entry fees are $25 for the 5K if received on or before March 17th and $30 on race day. For the 1-mile run, the entry fee is $20 with no late fee. For chldren ages12 and under, the fees are $10 less. There is no fee for the Kid's Dash.

Take a Nap

Don't want to give up your Sunday afternoon nap to run, but still want to show your support for Trinity Academt? Then chose the "Take a Nap" option . One hundred percent of your fee will go directly to the school.

T-shirts

The entry fee for both the mile and 5K includes a technical shirt guaranteed to all those whose entries are received on or before March 14th. There is no fee for the Kid’s Dash, but a shirt can be ordered for $10 if received on or before March 14th.

Competitive vs Recreational

Those entering the 5K have the option of registering as a competitive or recreational entrant. Competitive entrants are those who wish to receive an official finishing time, to be eligible awards, and/or get credit for participating in the Second Empire Spring Grand Prix. Recreational entrants are those who do not care about receiving an official time, being eligible for awards and/or receiving points in the Grand Prix.

Awards

In the 5K, awards will be presented to the top three males overall, to the top three females overall, to the top three master finishers of each sex, to the top three wheelchair finishers and to the top three finishers in each of the following age divisions: (both sexes) 12-under, 13-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, and 75-over.

Early Packet Pickup

Pre-registered entrants can pick up their race packets and late entrants can register on Saturday, March 23, at Capital Run/Walk in Cameron Village from 3-5 pm. Pre-registered entrants can also pick up their race packets and late entrants can register on race day at the start/finish area beginning at 12 noon.

Benefitting Organization

Second Empire Grand Prix

The Second Empire 5K Classic is also the fifth event in the ten-race Second Empire Spring 2013 Grand Prix Series. Runners who participate in these races accumulate points and are awarded money and prizes at an awards banquet held at the Second Empire Restaurant at the conclusion of the Series. Triangle Wellness Challenge

This year the Second Empire Grand Prix Series has added team competition. Teams need to first register at www.trianglewellnesschallenge.com where they will receive a team code. Individual runners will then use that team code when entering any of the Grand Prix races and automatically be placed on their team.
