The Raleigh-Cary Ridgewood turkey trot is a Triangle-area Thanksgiving tradition - and the largest Thanksgiving event in the area. It is also a fundraiser for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Last year over 2,700 runners from 33 states raised more than $22,000 for the National MS Society! This year's race will be capped at 3,000 participants. (Over 2,750 people have registered so far.)
Advanced packet pickup at Fleet Feet Sports in Ridgewood Shopping Center:
- Sunday 2-5 pm ONLY FOR 8K Competitive
- Tuesday 4-7 pm for all divisions
- Wednesday 4-7 pm for all divisions.

Competitive or Recreational 8K... what's the difference?
- Competitive 8K runners are chip-timed by Precision Race using state-of-the-art disposable bib tags. Recreational runners are not timed.
- Competitive 8K runners are eligible for prizes including overall and age group prizes for the fastest runners plus free running shoes courtesy of Fleet Feet Sports and Mizuno for every 100th finisher.
- Competitive runners receive a long-sleeve gender-specific tech shirt (register by 11/21). Recreational runners receive a short-sleeve t-shirt.
- Competitive runners are timed by Precision race and enjoy "Real-Time Results" including scrolling results display, touch-screen results kiosks, and SMS text messaging of your finish time to your wireless device.
New for 2010: Safer USATF Certified route eliminates the need to cross the paths of other runners.

New for 2010: Great new autumn shirt colors, for the Competitive 8K (long sleeve technical shirts).
Returning in 2010: Race photography by Hill Events. How many times have you wanted to purchase a professional race photo but were turned off by the sky-high prices? Hill Events prices are affordable. You can also get your finish photo on a mug, magnet, or mouse pad! A portion of photo purchases donated to the National MS Society.
Returning for 2010: Kids' Fun! Kids can decorate the finish approach with sidewalk chalk and make posters cheering for their running parents and relatives.
Baby Joggers are permitted! Safety is our #1 priority, so we ask parents with baby joggers to start near the back, and to prioritize the safety of your fellow runners over your finish time.
Schedule of events:
- - Race day packet pick up and registration will be held from 7:00 AM - 8:15 AM at the race start/finish area. No race-day competitive entries.
- - Enjoy the Race Expo all morning.
- - The 1 Mile Fun Run kicks off the day's events at 8:00 am.
- - The 8K Turkey Trot Race will start at 8:30 am (competitive division) and 8:35 (recreational). The 8K Race will be run on a new certified course which includes some hills to add to the challenge. Jaguar disposable-chip timing and real-time results by Precision Race, LLC for the competitive divison. USA Track & Field sanctioned event.
- - Baby joggers are welcome in the 8K Recreational Run and in the 1 Mile Fun Run
- - The Kid's Dash (ages 7 and under) will start at 9:45 am.
- - The 8K Race Awards Ceremony will begin at 10:00 am.
Event Shirts:
- - 8K competitive race participants registering by 11/21 will receive a gender-specific long-sleeve technical shirt. Women's shirts are Zorrel stretch techncial shirts and they run small - we recommend that women order up one size). Yes - get a great long-sleeve tech shirt and disposable chip timing for just $5 more than the recreational 8K!
- - 8K competitive racers registering at advance packet pickup will receive an event t-shirt. (No race-day 8K competitive entries.)
- - Participants in the 8K recreational run and the 1-mile Fun Run will receive an event t-shirt (while supplies last).
- - Participants in the Kid's Dash (ages 7 and under) will receive a medal.
8K Competitive Awards and Categories:

Every 100th 8K Competitive division racer to finish will receive a certificate for a complimentary fitting and a free pair of Mizuno shoes from Fleet Feet Raleigh.
Competitive division prizes are provided by race sponsors Fleet Feet Sports Raleigh and Mizuno. Award categories include (preliminary - subject to change):
- Top 3 overall male and female
- Top 3 overall male and female Masters
- Top 3 in the following age groups (male and female except as noted):
15-under, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-55, 55-59, 60-64, 65 and above
Plan to arrive early on race day as Ridge Road (which is part of the run/race route) will be closed to traffic at 7:45 am. Take advantage of convenient parking across Wade Ave at Meredith College.
