Additional Information

Faith Runners stands for FOCUSED ATHLETES INVOLVED TO HELP. FAITH is a non-profit organization made up of runners and walkers who want to increase their physical fitness as well as join in the battle against cancer. FAITH is composed of runners and walkers of ALL fitness levels - expert to beginner. FAITH began as a way to raise money and awareness while honoring one woman's battle with cancer. Lynn Salyer, was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in May of 2007 at the age of 48 (nearly two years before the recommended screening age of 50). After complicated surgery and multiple chemotherapy treatments Lynn decided the best way she could battle her cancer was through her faith in God. Therefore, she ceased treatment and turned her fate over to the Lord. FAITH is how we honor her battle and increase awareness. FAITH is partnered with the Colon Cancer Prevention Project, and all money FAITH raised goes to local education and prevention efforts. FAITH is an offshoot of the Lynn Salyer Foundation. It is our mission to educate and help people become more aware of the dangers of colon cancer. Currently, colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer related deaths. It is estimated that nearly 149,000 people will be diagnosed with colon cancer than 49,000 will die from the diease in 2008. However, with proper screening, colon cancer is almost always preventable.
