Additional Information

1. How challenging is the course? It is a challenging, hilly, and uneven forested trail with tree roots and rocks and ruts. If it has rained recently, it can be slippery and everyone should be alert and careful on the trail.

2. Where do I park and is there a parking fee? Montgomery Park Parking Lot, 2800 block of NW Vaughn, from 5:30 AM to 11:30 AM

3. Will there be children’s activities? Yes, a children’s walk begins at 9:15. We will have face painting and children will be able to make drawings for Congolese children. We ask that children bring a photo of themselves to attach to their drawings.

4. Will there be water, first aid, and snacks? Water, first aid, and snacks will be on the trail and at the finish line for participants and volunteers.

5. Where do I go if I want to volunteer? Email us at portlandcongorun@yahoo.com with your availability. We will have a volunteer training meeting and work party on Saturday, June 19th, time and place to be announced.

6. Can men run, too? Absolutely! Congolese women are their sisters, too. We love having men be a part of this movement.

7. Can children be in strollers on the trail? We discourage people from using strollers on the trail in order to preserve the trail and limit damage; however, we will not turn people with strollers away though because the public uses strollers on the trail sometimes.

8. What does the registration fee cover? Will some of the money go to sponsoring a woman? The registration fee covers a T-shirt for run day, an administrative fee to active.com, and our permitting and other run costs, which are substantial. The remainder goes directly to support the Congo program run by Women for Women International, but that is not a lot, so we do ask that participants fundraise in order to help us help more Congolese women and children.

9. Do I have to get sponsors in order to run the race? No

10. Are there awards given at the race? Run for Congo Women is not a race per se. We do not time participants. We will give awards to top three fundraisers.

11. Can I run as a team with my coworkers or friends? Absolutely! Select a team captain first and have her register a team using the "Create Your Team" button on the main registration page. The team captain will be provided with a team password. When additional team members register through active, they must use the team name and team password when prompted. It's that simple.

Funds raised here benefit the entirety of our DR Congo program and cannot be applied to a sponsorship of a woman in our program.
