Brief Description

Is it your resolution to run a 5K this year? Need a race to jump-start your season? Want to make a difference? Then come join us as we kick off National Foster Care Awareness Month in May! Our event will be held on Saturday, May 5th at Boyce Park at 8am. This is a fun and scenic out and back course that starts and finishes at Hillcourt Pavilion.

Food, Fun, Music, and more!

In addition to the 5K run/walk, there will also be a FREE 100 yard dash for children following the 5K (8:30 am). All children participating in the 100 yard dash will receive a ribbon and top female and male runners in the 5K will receive medals for designated age groups. Event participation in the 5K Run/Walk is $25 and includes a t-shirt and post race treats. Registrations received before February 12th are discounted by $5. Live DJ will be at start of race.

Donate to the Cause

Monies raised from this event will be used to pay for “exceptional expenses” for children in foster care. Simply put, these are costs associated with “extras” such as summer camp, dance lessons or even a bicycle. As of 2010, exceptional expenses can no longer be paid by government funding sources. Your donations will be used to help pay for these little extras which can go a long way in making a HUGE difference in the life of a foster child. Please click on the Online Donations link below.

Volunteers needed

There are many ways you can get involved in supporting this event. One way to make a difference is by volunteering. We are in need of volunteers to organize and oversee the kids 100 yard dash and various other aspects of this race. If you would like to help please email the Race Director. Thank you!

Additional Information

The Starfish Story - One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. The man asked, “What are you doing?” The boy replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. Surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.” “Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!” After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said, “I made a difference for that one.”
