This race, organized and managed by the Oxford Parks and Recreation Department, is to benefit the American Cancer Society. In 2010, a field of over 120 runners/walkers registered for this event. Jarett Prady won the race in 17:06 – nine seconds off his 2007 course record. Cheryl Peterson set a new women’s course mark as she ran the course in 23 minutes flat.
The 5K is the first event of the day starting at 9:00 am while the one mile run/walk begins at 10:00 a.m. The course starts and finishes at the Oxford Recreation Complex at 307 East Spring Street.
The entry fees for the 5K are $10 for Recreation Runners/Walkers who do not wish to have an official time and $15 for those who wish to be timed. The fee is only $10 for those under age 19 who wish to get an official time. On race day, all fees increase by $5. The first 200 entrants will receive a t-shirt.
In both races, awards will be given to the top three males overall, to the top three females overall, and to the top finishers in each of the following age divisions: 6-under, 7-12, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-over.
Profits from the race will go to the American Cancer Society.
